How to Choose What to Tap On: A Personal Guide to Effective EFT Tapping

Deborah Lindsey
So, you’ve decided to dive into EFT tapping, and now you're wondering, “How do you choose what to tap on?” It’s a common stumbling block, but don't worry – you’re not alone.

This is a crucial question and understanding how to pinpoint the right issues can make all the difference in your EFT practice.

Identifying What to Tap On

First, take a good look at your life. What is holding you back? Let’s say, for example, you’re struggling with low self-esteem. It’s a significant issue, but going too broad with it won’t yield the best results.

Simply tapping on, “Even though I have low self-esteem…” is too vague and likely won’t bring the relief you’re looking for.

Break It Down: Be Specific

To effectively tap on low self-esteem, you need to break it down. Start by asking yourself, “Why do I have low self-esteem?” Maybe your mother told you when you were younger that you weren’t worth anything or that you’d never find a husband. Perhaps societal messages made you feel inadequate, or you were bullied. These are the specific events and messages that contribute to your low self-esteem.

Tap on Specific Aspects

Instead of addressing low self-esteem as a whole, focus on one specific aspect at a time. For instance, if you remember a particular incident where someone made you feel worthless, tap on that specific memory. Say, “Even though my mother told me I’m not worth anything…” and tap through the points.

Once you’ve worked through one aspect, move on to the next. This methodical approach allows you to chip away at the larger issue piece by piece, leading to more profound and lasting changes.

A Step-by-Step Approach

Identify the Broad Issue: Start with a broad area that’s troubling you, like low self-esteem.

Break It Down: Ask yourself why this issue exists. Identify specific events or messages that contribute to it.

Choose One Specific Part of the Puzzle: Focus on one specific memory or belief at a time.

Tap on That Specific Puzzle Piece (often referred to as an Aspect): Tap on that particular event or belief until you feel relief, or preferably, collapse it altogether.

Move to the Next Aspect: Once you feel some relief, don't stop! Move on to another specific event or belief. Often while you are tapping on the first part of the puzzle, and other memory or feeling will come up. Tap on that next.

Be Honest With Yourself:  Choosing what to tap on is a deeply personal process. It involves reflection and honesty with yourself about your experiences and feelings. This is one of the great benefits of tapping on your own — you know yourself better than anyone else! By choosing honest topics and tapping them through, you will soon find that you have life-changing results.

Conclusion

Understanding how to choose what to tap on is essential for effective EFT tapping. By breaking down broad issues into specific aspects and addressing them one by one, you can achieve more significant and lasting results.

Remember, it’s a journey, and each step brings you closer to healing and self-improvement. Start today by identifying one specific aspect of a larger issue and see the difference it makes in your life.
